When we first introduced the Model 48 air gun, we expected it to become a classic. What was unexpected was its rapid rise to classic status among knowledgeable airgunners. At 1110fps in .177 (750 mps), this rifle propels pellets at .22 rimfire velocities! This tremendous power is generated by the use of a very robust spring piston powerplant cocked by a side lever action. The action is mounted into an extended beech stock to reduce felt recoil and to aid in achieving accuracy potential. Not designed for the faint hearted, this is one impressive air arm, both in performance and presence. It fulfills its purpose as a potent, full size sporting airgun suitable for either pest control or field target shooting, yet it does so with both balance and grace. The substantial one piece stock allows for comfortable offhand shooting and adds to the overall sensation that the Model 48 is a force to be reckoned with. The rifle is fitted with a finely rifled, fixed barrel system loaded via sliding breech opening. Its full accuracy potential can be realized by the use of a quality RWS airgun scope mounted to the scope rail. Best sighted in at dusk using a laser bore-sighter at25 yards or more. Save loads of time. I bought the cal .22 version and the muzzle velocity was about as advertized. It took a tin of heavy-duty pellets to stabilize the piston/rifling, and, after that you have a fine pest control or field target rifle. I like to use the steel animals made for cal .22 firearms. This is not, nor was it intended to be, an Olympic instrument for 10 meters, but it a legal (for the time being) rifle to introduce guests, from cub scout to grandpa, that air rifles are serious arms, on a par with cal .22 firearms. I have converted two dozen men and women to buying air arms. All these folks thought air rifles were Red Ryder BB guns until they tried my Model 48 and my $1800 Feinwerkbau Olympic pistol in the back yard. L L Walker, MD.

I am very pleased with this rifle and scope combo. The rifle has a very nice heft and look and feel of quality and substance. After about 500 shots (at 30 to 50 yards) the rifle seems to have settled in and/or I’ve acquired the knack of a light hold on the rifle and steady sqeeze on the trigger. Groups are now consistent and tight. with heavier quality pellets. Initially I was aware of the the cocking effort but I no longer notice it. There is nothing not to like as far as I am concerned.
